“Enough is enough! Too many cyclists have been knocked down or killed on our roads. We need to raise more awareness around the safety of cyclists and safe passing distances,” said Pedal Power Association chairman Steve Hayward.  Please join us at the start of the 21km Powerade Leisure Ride in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 1 February 2014 for the erection of a ghost bike to raise awareness around safe cycling and to commemorate cyclists who lost their lives in the last year.

The good news is: After years of talking about it, we are finally able to split road and MTB seeding and from now on, our members will have a different road and MTB PPA seeded number. To set the ball rolling and to test the new system, we are now issuing new MTB ‘back numbers’ to all paid-up PPA members who participate in MTB events on the PPA calendar; the intention being to replace the MTB back numbers with permanent PPA seeded frame numbers from 2012.

The Pedal Power Association ‘gave back’ to the community when committee and staff members of the Association, together with local Traffic Officers, a PPA cycling marshal  and friends of the PPA, spent a few chilly hours on Thursday 14 July to hand bicycle helmets and lights to commuters from the Danoon informal settlement.

Earlier this morning, cycling commuters from the Masiphumelele informal settlements were quite apprehensive when they were pulled off the road near the Sun Valley four-way intersection, but their apprehension soon turned to delight when the Pedal Power Association handed them free cycling helmets, while at the same time fitting red reflecting lights to their bicycles.
