MTB PPA MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL REMINDER/NEXT SEEDING RUN
The next seeding run will take place on Friday this week – if you have not yet paid your subs and want a seeded number for the Worcester funride, please renew by close of business on Friday 2 September, either via the PPA website or the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour website. PPA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Please diarise and come to the PPA Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 14 September 2011, at the Canal Walk Auditorium, 17h45 for 18h30 start. For catering purposes, please RSVP to info@pedalpower.org.za by Friday 9 September.
PPA MEMBERSHIP E-CARDS
We are fixing the problem that a few members see an incorrect renewal date when trying to print their membership cards off MyPPA. If you are one of the members who gets the error message and you need confirmation of your membership for this weekend’s event, please contact the PPA Office.

MTB BEGINNER’S WORKSHOP
The next beginners’ MTB workshops, presented by Sara Muhl, will take place on Sat 3 and Sat 10 Sept. Topics covered include basics like how to handle obstacles, how to handle different terrain; body position and various riding techniques. Pre-bookings only. Read more

NEW MTB AND ROAD SEEDED FUNRIDE NUMBERS
If you were one of the ‘early birds’ who had renewed your PPA subs before the first seeding run took place, then your new PPA funride number is in the post or you should have already received it.

Don’t forget to bring and wear your new MTB-specific back number to the Citrusdal MTB this weekend.

If you received only a blue road back number and are taking part in the Citrusdal MTB, please call the office no later than lunchtime on Friday to organise a MTB seeded number for this event.

BIKE TO WORK
Spring is in the air… Let’s all cycle to work on Wednesday 7 September! Organise your life so that you leave some clothes at the office the day before, and – c’mon – cycle to and from work on the Wednesday. See the news section and commuting section on the PPA website for more info.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The 50 km and 35 km routes include great single-track and require good technical expertise and fitness to handle the long climbs; some rocky, twisty descents and river crossings.

From the Sports Grounds in town, all routes head out on jeep tracks through orange groves to tackle the fairly steep climb up Middelberg, before riders hit the new single-track that’s been added for this years’ event.

The 15 km then splits from the two longer routes and heads back to town with a scenic (mostly downhill) jeep track through Boontjiesrivier farm.

The 50 km and 35 km routes split at Lentelus, with the 50 km route heading off to some challenging technical sections. Watch out for a river crossing after a fast downhill before the route heads back to Elandskloof.  The routes rejoin at Bosplaas, where stunning views and more single-track (fast, rocky downhill!) through fynbos await. The last part of the ride combines lovely scenery with river crossings on the edge of a foothill off the Cederberg conservation area, winding back through more orange groves.  Keep an eye open for the spring flowers alongside the road.  In all, a ride devised by cyclists for cyclists.

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE
From Cape Town, take the N7 towards Malmesbury. Continue past Malmesbury, Moorreesburg and Piketberg over the Piekenierskloof Pass. Immediately after the pass, turn right towards Citrusdal. As you enter Citrusdal, turn right at the first turn-off after the bridge and follow the signs to the sports grounds. Allow approximately two hours travel time from Cape Town. All riders under 10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Easy Entry Tickets accepted. Remember to wear your brown PPA funride number.
