CYCLING SAFETY AT EVENTS
You are responsible for your safety on the road even when racing, so be sure to keep your eyes on the road and think of your fellow cyclists’ safety, no matter how competitive it gets.
– Stay left of the white line at all times and listen to the Think Bike marshals.
– When cycling in bunches, be sure to leave some space on either side of the bunch to allow for left and right movement on the road without crossing any center lines.
– When cycling in neutral zones, stay left at all times and in single file, allow cars to pass you quickly. Normal road rules applies so be sure to signal your intentions and stop at traffic lights, stop streets etc. Take the neutral areas carefully, the race is finished and no doubt your legs are tired, take it slow and safe!
“NO TRANSPONDER, NO TIME”
Please remember to bring and wear your transponder at all PPA events.
No timing results will be given to those cyclists who do not wear transponders. Timing chips (transponders) are available from the PPA office during the week, the PPA mobile office at events and from Racetec crew at the start and finish of events (look for them at the timing mats). Please note that only paid-up PPA members wearing a transponder will receive a time.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
Road: The 126 km route follows a loop towards Malmesbury. Cyclists will pedal past Wellington, Hermon and Riebeeck-Kasteel, including a loop through the Voor-Paardeberg area. The route turns left onto the Suid-Agterpaarl road past Fairview and left onto the R45/ R101 to finish at the Paarl Boys High sports grounds. The 72 km route cuts out the Hermon loop and turns left off the R45 onto the Sonop/Klipheuwel road to follow the 126 km route home. The 45 km route goes around Paarl Mountain and has no serious climbs. It meets up with the other routes near the Windmeul Winery. PLEASE NOTE – A compulsory cut-off will be enforced for the 126 km route.
With no road closure, cyclists must stay left of the median, and obey traffic signs, officials and marshals at all times. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
MTB: Both long and short MTB routes start with a tough 8 km climb before following routes below Paarl Rock and through the reserve. Both routes then go down to the R101 and turn left to the finish. The 19 km route will be untimed.
