Amongst others, your Cycling South Africa membership fees will be paid on your behalf; you’ll receive a seeded funride number to use at road and MTB events; PPA pays for its members to be timed at events, and you get various discounts. Read more on our website!

If you cannot renew online, choose one of the other payment options on our website – click on the JOIN/RENEW NOW link, or contact the PPA Office on (021) 689-8420 / info@pedalpower.org.za

NEW MTB SEEDED FUNRIDE NUMBERS
This year, for the first time, PPA is issuing MTB-specific seeded numbers, which will differ from your road funride number and road seeding. We are busy finalising a FAQ in this regard and will upload it to the website tomorrow. The first seeding run of the new membership year is envisaged to take place in the first week of August – get your friends to renew their subs soonest so that they can be included in that seeding run. Your 2010-2011 funride number remains active until the first seeding run has taken place.

PPA HELMET SAFETY DRIVE
The Pedal Power Association ‘gave back’ to the community when committee and staff members, together with friends of the PPA, spent a few chilly hours on Thursday 14 July to hand out 80 helmets and bicycle lights to commuters from the Danoon informal settlement. The previous week, 125 helmets and lights were handed out to commuters in the Sun Valley/ Kommetjie area. Follow the links for more information and pictures.

MTB SKILLS WORKSHOP
Due to popular demand, PPA has organized more beginners’ MTB skills workshops for Saturday 6 and/or 20 August. Learn how to handle obstacles and different terrain, correct body position and technique. Only 8 places. Cost:  R230 per PPA member (excluding your Tokai permits). Pre-bookings only. Please contact Samantha at the PPA Office on (021) 689-8420 or email marketing@pedalpower.org.za to book your place and for more information.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The Kluitjieskraal MTB route, as used in the Cape Epic 2010 & 2011, in between Worcester and Ceres, is renowned for its spectacular scenery and challenging uphills – some of which climb to 400m above sea level, followed by rocky, technical descents on narrow jeep tracks/single-track. It takes the rider into unknown forest and mountain territory. It is a water-rich route, which passes through the MTO forestry reserve and traverses the Waterval Mountains twice. Be prepared for some water crossings – you could get your feet wet! The 64 km route is challenging and includes steep climbs and sharp ascents and single-track. The 44 km is “pretty” but tough, while the 17 km is a family-friendly ride, with a steep hill at the beginning. The new 5 km is a kiddies’ fun ride through the farms adjacent to the school grounds. The 17 km & 5 km races are untimed and no CSA day licenses are needed.

Each cyclist entering receives a medal upon completion, as well as a water bottle and biltong from the main sponsor! The first 60 riders of the 44km & 64km, over the finish line, also receive a customised peak cap commemorating the day!

Wait around for the lucky draw at 13h00. We have fabulous lucky draw prizes, up to the value of R2000, for 10 lucky entrants! These prizes include vouchers from establishments in the area and loads of goodies from the area! Not to be missed!

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE
Take the N1 from Cape Town. Before reaching Worcester, turn left on the R43, direction Ceres.  Turn right at the T-junction at Bergsig Wine Cellar (R43) and then left again to Wolseley (R43). After the 4-way stop in Wolseley turn 2nd right into Mill Street and follow the signs to the venue. Wolseley is approximately 120 km from Cape Town. GPS Coordinates: S: 33º 24’ 34”, E: 19º 12’ 3”. Click here for interactive route directions and more event info.

NOTES
This is a balanced route with challenging climbs and spectacular views, with great technical jeep track and descents. It has received rave reviews from participants with numbers increasing considerably annually. Note: All children u/10 must be accompanied by an adult. PPA members wearing their seeded numbers will start before Non-PPA members or PPA members without their seeded numbers.  PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE R35 CSA DAY LICENCE FEE FOR ALL TIMED RACES FOR NON-CSA RIDERS. Please remember to bring your 2010-2011 seeded funride number, which is still valid for this event.

OTHER ACTIVITES AT THE EVENT
Situated at the Junior School in Wolseley, with its spacious grounds, there are many activities for kiddies to do. “Babbelbekkies” the pre-school is doing the kiddies entertainment, which will include a jumping castle and kids things to do!
