16 Apr 2012 New PPA-sponsored MTB trails and BMX open in Grabouw
Over ninety eager MTB bikers took advantage of the launch special and took to the mountains to try out the various trails at the official opening of the Paul Cluver/Thandi MTB trails on Sunday April. The trails were funded by PPA and Wine to Whales and included great new single-track sections including Tthe Switch Backs, Up & Downs, Pofadder, Geelslang and Huppelland.
At the same time, the new Botrivier BMX track at Thandi, also funded by PPA, was opened and although some final touches still need to be made, the launch saw many children enjoy the slightly muddy conditions on the amazing new track.

Great excitement at the opening of the new PPA-sponsored MTB trails and BMX track at Thandi Estate in Grabouw
The objective of the creation of the BMX track is to include nearby community schools and youth to introduce them to the world of BMX as an alternative to the negative influences facing them on a daily basis.
In all, PPA has allocated R1 850 000 to support 39 cycling-related projects over the past year, bringing the funding spent on cycling projects over the last four years to a total approximately R7 million, spread over 120 cycling-related projects.

The BMX track is already a hit and moms can even watch the kids from the restaurant stoep while enjoying a great coffee, while dad runs around the track with the budding new cyclist 😉
“We are in the fortunate position that the Pedal Power Association and the Rotary Club of Claremont are the beneficiaries of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, who organises, amongst others, the annual Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour,” explained PPA Chairman, Steve Hayward. The PPA projects team is currently evaluating all the applications received for the new project funding year commencing in July 2012.
