Today we celebrate World Bicycle Day!
The Pedal Power Association promotes cycling in all its forms and, in collaboration with the Bicycling Empowerment Network, through the Bike4All programme we have a strong, yet simple vision: Help get more people cycling.
Many people think of bicycles in terms of sport or recreation; as a means to participate in road or off-road funrides, or simply to get fit and healthy. But the bicycle is the ideal vehicle for travelling and transport, especially for shorter trips to school, shop or work or even just for fun. Through the Bike4All programme, we aim to help change mobility in South Africa.
Through Bike4All PPA pledges to hand over 68 bikes in the month of June to those who are in need of safe, reliable and convenient transportation to help our communities get through the COVID-19 crisis. Since the start of the pandemic Bike4All has handed over 975 bikes to communities across the country with the focus on safety and Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).
Please consider assisting someone less fortunate than yourself by donating the money to fund a bicycle(s), or even just part of a bicycle. We’ll make sure it goes to a worthy recipient; someone whose life will be changed for the better if they can use a bicycle as their new mode of transport. Or, if you’d like, you can sponsor a bicycle(s) for a specific initiative, project or person. We want to make sure that the bicycles go where they are most needed. By doing so you will help “Make cycling part of the solution” and be a part of celebrating an amazing international day.
