Female cyclists in the Cape have a fantastic event to look forward to: PPA’s BlueBoost Heels on Wheels’ on Sunday 9 October 2016. This is the only road funride in the Cape aimed specifically at the fairer sex, and if the past five years is anything to go by, this is definitely an event not to be missed.

The Pedal Power Association started the event five years ago when female cyclists complained that they often feel pressurized when cycling with male cyclists, or that many of the funride routes were too difficult, or too long. The event has since grown to be the biggest all-female road event on the calendar, with a new long route in 2016 to offer four routes (74 km, 53 km, 38 km and 22 km).

While the two longer routes include the tough 5 km climb over Helshoogte, the 38 km route offers participants a good workout with fewer hills, while the 22 km follows the flattest route that could be found in the area – perfect for beginners.

Men are allowed to enter the 22 km, provided they have a young cyclist u/12 to accompany and watch over them the whole way.

Coffee and light snacks will be available at the venue before the start. After the event, great food stalls will be available (cash only) while Simonsvlei wines will be available at discounted prices to participants. “Other halves” are most welcome to wait at the venue while looking after the kids at the Canal Walk Kids’ Zone and jumping castle.
