Are you ready to get ‘wacky’?

Are you ready to get ‘wacky’?

Have you entered the PPA Wacky Wheels Weekend Adventure on 16-18 March 2012 yet? This overnight cycle tour is a chilled-out, very social weekend (no racing!) with the emphasis on FUN and a great weekend away. This year’s tour is a bit different to recent years in that your campsite is booked for both Friday and Saturday; you make your own way to and from Onrus where we leave our vehicles, and we do some fun out-and-back rides from there, with some great meals thrown in.

What it’s all about:

Getting set up at camp!

Friday

Join us at Onrus any time between 16h00 and 21h00; take time to set up camp and relax and get in the spirit for the weekend – perhaps even go for a gentle exploratory pedal through Onrus if you get there early enough. Supper on Friday night is a ‘bring and braai’ for your own account, with PPA supplying the firewood. If you are not up for a braai, either bring along something else to eat around the camp fires (you can even order and fetch a pizza from the restaurant up the road), or we can suggest a restaurant nearby.

Let's get wacky!

Saturday

Coffee and rusks will be available at the campsite from 07h30. For those of you who will only be able to come through to Onrus on Saturday morning, please arrive early so that you are ready to start pedalling by 08h30. We’ll leave our cars at the camp site (lock away all valuables) and start pedalling in small groups at 08h30, making our way 5km up the road to the Hermanuspietersfontein Food Market for breakfast (which will be for your own account). At 10h00, we start pedalling via the R44 to Kleinmond (around 35 km one-way).

We’ll stop in Kleinmond for lunch (own account) and a nosey around, before leaving at 14h00 to return to Onrus via Karweiderskraal. Back at the camp, tea/coffee and biscuits will be served at 16h00.

After tea, there’s plenty of time to have a shower, go for a walk on the beach or just laze about, with our by-now-infamous Wacky Prizegiving following at 18h00. As in the past, there will be many prizes up for grabs – from the wackiest photograph taken on the day, to the persons who give the correct/incorrect/most interesting answers in our Wacky Quiz. The judges are open to bribes.

Supper will follow at 19h00: A delicious lamb spitbraai with potato and veggie bakes and a greek salad, followed by ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Please note that there are no marshals, traffic support or route markings en route, and you will be expected to obey all traffic rules at all times. Total distance for the day is roughly 80 km.

Sunday

After coffee/tee and rusks at the campsite, we pedal into the Hemel en Aarde Valley (20 km return trip).  At 11h00, we meet at the ‘Salt of the Earth’ Farm stall for  brunch. The cost of brunch is included in your entry fee. After brunch, we pedal back to the campsite, and you are then at leisure to spend a few more hours there, before packing up and returning home.
