01 Apr 2011 Top racing this weekend at Velodrome
The Pedal Power Association is proud to be the main sponsor for the annual Western Cape Track Championships, taking place at the Bellville Velodrome from 1 to 3 April 2011.
“We were approached earlier in the year by the Western Province Track Commission, who was looking for funding for the event. In the interests of furthering cycling in the province, the decision was taken to ‘throw a lifeline’ to the event,” explained PPA Vice-Chairman Elton Davids.
Racing promises to be action-packed with some of the Western Cape’s best local talent in action, including the likes of Boyd Roberts, Jean Smith, Brandon Christians, Emile Jacobs, John Moss, Tania Carstens, Maroejska Matthee, Hannes Basson, Riaan Joubert and Morné van Greuning.
Friday night’s racing includes the Sprint Qualifiers, Time Trials, Olympic Sprints and Scratch races.
Highlights on Saturday’s programme includes the Pursuits, Elimination (Devil-take-the-hindmost) as well as some Time Trial and Sprint finals. On Sunday participants and spectators can look forward to the 1500m, Keirin, Points Races and a particular action-packed event, the Open 20 km Madison, which will be the last event of the Championships.
Racing will take place on Friday (today) from 19h00-22h30, on Saturday from 10h00-18h00 and on Sunday from 10h00– 16h00
There is no entrance fee payable for spectators – don’t miss out on this great event and do come and watch some top cycling! Parking will be available at the Bellville Stadium.
