28 Jan 2018 Stellenbosch to host international MTB in March
Stellenbosch will host the opening leg of the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup series on 10 March. The seven-event series is the annual pinnacle of international cross-country racing, with the world’s best elite and under-23 riders competing on 5-7 laps of an intense, testing 4.5km course in an event that has been described as Formula One on mountain bikes.
The Western Cape is regarded as having some of the best mountain biking routes in the world.
The Stellenbosch race will be held on the iconic trails around the Coetzenburg mountain used by the University of Stellenbosch. It is organised by Grandstand Management, the team behind the Absa Cape Epic, bringing the World Cup series back to the city over 20 years after it was last held there.
