19 Feb 2018 Show your support for safer roads: Join the ‘Stay Wider of the Rider’ Awareness Ride on 4 March
The annual Cape Town PPA ‘Stay Wider of the Rider’ Safe Cycling Awareness Ride takes place on Sunday 4 March. We urge all cyclists who would like to show their support for a safer cycling environment and safer roads to join us on this ride.
We’d like everyone to meet at 06h30, with the ride starting at 07h00 sharp. The route is from Maiden’s Cove (Camp’s Bay) to Chapman’s Peak and back, although cyclists are welcome to turn back earlier than Chapman’s Peak, or to continue on a longer training ride.
Due to the drought in Cape Town, we will use portable toilets and hand sanitiser at Maiden’s Cove. We will offer all riders a free cup of coffee prior to the ride and Powerade at Chapman’s Peak. No water will be handed out – please bring along your own (enough for your ride).
There is no entry fee, but we ask that you wear highly visible clothing or your ‘Stay Wider of the Rider’ cycling jersey. You can order a jersey if you click on the link https://pedal-power-association.myshopify.com/ Jerseys will also be on sale on the day.
Please note this is a ‘safe cycling’ ride so all riders need to obey the rules of the road at all times. As a social ride, there will be no route markings and limited marshals.
* PLEASE BE VISIBLE on the road whilst training at all times, wear highly visible clothes and use bike lights, day or night. We are getting numerous reports from motorists saying they simply cannot see cyclists who are wearing black or dark clothes while out cycling in the early mornings or at dusk.
