MTB permits now available from Kirstenbosch

MTB permits now available from Kirstenbosch

As of 1 June, Table Mountain National Park/San Parks has begun selling day permits for cycling from the Cape Town Tourism office in Burg Street, CBD. As of Friday 3 July, day permits can also be purchased at the CTT kiosk at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Day permits cost R60.

Bulls on TM

The Bulls training on Table Mountain … with their permits!

You may cycle in the following areas:

  1. Table Mountain trails (a small section of Signal Hill on the City Bowl side) and below Tafelberg Road from Kloof Nek, all the way to the Rhodes Memorial precinct. Maps for these areas are available for free at local bike shops, Cape Town Tourism, TMNP visitor centre and the Table Mountain Bikers website.
  2. Black Hill to Red Hill in the Deep South Peninsula.

Tokai and Silvermine remain closed to all users. Silvermine will re-open later in 2015 and the indication from TMNP is that Tokai will re-open in the second half of 2016. Newlands and Cecilia Forests are also both out of bounds at this point.

Day permits are no longer available from Tokai. Annual Level 3 permits (that allow mountain biking) are available at R460 from the Tokai Plantation office, the CTT kiosk at Kirstenbosch and all Cape Town Tourism Visitor Information outlets. Click here to read more.

Please carry your day or annual permit with you at all times.

PPA, Amarider and Tokai MTB are currently busy with the revision of the MTB Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and the first draft is ready to be presented to TMNP management.

A trail rationalisation process for Tokai is running in parallel to the EMP revision.  Both are being funded by the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (facilitated by PPA) to the tune of some R130 000.
