1. PPA v George Aspinaal
PPA took cession of the claims of three cyclists who had been killed in a hit-and-run incident near Oudshoorn during 2011 after the State failed to successfully prosecute the driver who was allegedly at fault. PPA has sued the driver for damages on behalf of the deceased cyclists. The matter is set down for trial in November 2016.
2. State v Geoffrey Merrick
On 12 May 2016, Dr Koos Roux was killed while cycling with his son on Bottelary Road, Brackenfell. The driver fled the scene of the accident, but handed himself in to the police 10 days later when the police were able to match his vehicle with the debris left at the scene of the accident.
PPA, through its attorneys, has briefed an advocate to assist the State with the prosecution of the matter in the hope of securing a guilty verdict against the accused. The trial is ongoing and was recently postponed for the accused to secure new legal representation.
