Pedal Power Association staff members got their hands dirty on Friday 20 May 2011 to plant indigenous trees alongside the new MTB/walking path, sponsored by the PPA, that is being built around the perimeter of Lower Tokai. To date, some 4,5 km of the path has been completed.

The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Dan Plato, recently visited the upgraded Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) infrastructure in Khayelitsha to encourage road safety among pedestrians and cyclists. Whilst inspecting the infrastructure, the Mayor handed out reflective wrist bands to pedestrians and cyclists using the route.

The UCI Management Committee has approved the amendment of the UCI Regulations in order to prohibit and sanction the use of injections of medicines (or other substances) without a clear medical indication. This initiative, called the No Needle Policy, gives expression to the UCI's desire to protect the riders' health, maintain equality of opportunity and fight against doping.

When Tour d’Afrique riders cycle from Blouberg to Cape Town on the final leg of their 4-month journey from Cairo to Cape Town on Saturday 14th May, it will be the first time an international bicycle tour will make use of the City of Cape Town’s new BRT cycle paths.  Tour d’Afrique riders will join local cyclists from all over Cape Town in an event called The Big Ride In – a celebratory community ride along Cape Town’s new cycle paths.
