PPA MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL REMINDER All PPA memberships were due on the 1st July 2011. Thank you to our members who have already renewed. The first seeding run will take place towards the end of this week or over the weekend, after which the new season's road and new MTB funride numbers will be posted.

The good news is: After years of talking about it, we are finally able to split road and MTB seeding and from now on, our members will have a different road and MTB PPA seeded number. To set the ball rolling and to test the new system, we are now issuing new MTB ‘back numbers’ to all paid-up PPA members who participate in MTB events on the PPA calendar; the intention being to replace the MTB back numbers with permanent PPA seeded frame numbers from 2012.

Entries for Die Burger Cycle Tour 2011, the Western Cape’s second biggest road cycling event, opened on Monday 1 August. Die Burger Cycle Tour takes place on Sunday 4 December 2011 and  features two distances: the fast 92 km route for experienced cyclists, and the shorter 44 km which is ideal for novice cyclists.

The Pedal Power Association ‘gave back’ to the community when committee and staff members of the Association, together with local Traffic Officers, a PPA cycling marshal  and friends of the PPA, spent a few chilly hours on Thursday 14 July to hand bicycle helmets and lights to commuters from the Danoon informal settlement.

Earlier this morning, cycling commuters from the Masiphumelele informal settlements were quite apprehensive when they were pulled off the road near the Sun Valley four-way intersection, but their apprehension soon turned to delight when the Pedal Power Association handed them free cycling helmets, while at the same time fitting red reflecting lights to their bicycles.
