Darren Lill from Team Cannondale Blend held off stiff competition in perfect mountain biking conditions today to clinch the 2014 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Mountain Bike Challenge title in Stellenbosch.  Second place went to Cannondale Blend teammate, Charles Keey, while Kevin Evans from Team Fedgroup Itec claimed the third and final podium spot.

Friday 14 February 2014: Judgment was handed down this morning in the matter between the Pedal Power Association and Cycling South Africa in the High Court of South Africa, as follows:  Acting Judge KM Savage ordered that the applicant, the Pedal Power Association, does not require the prior sanction or approval of the first respondent, Cycling South Africa, or members of the first respondent, in respect of cycling events organised by the applicant, including fun rides or league rides.  (...more)

12 February 2014 – Cycling South Africa is devastated at the news of the untimely death of multiple Track cycling champion, Jeanne Nell. Nell sustained fatal head injuries in a tragic fall during a Keirin race at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town last night, and died later in hospital.

“Enough is enough! Too many cyclists have been knocked down or killed on our roads. We need to raise more awareness around the safety of cyclists and safe passing distances,” said Pedal Power Association chairman Steve Hayward.  Please join us at the start of the 21km Powerade Leisure Ride in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 1 February 2014 for the erection of a ghost bike to raise awareness around safe cycling and to commemorate cyclists who lost their lives in the last year.

For the past three years, the Pedal Power Association, a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 18/11/13/2410), has been actively campaigning to improve the conditions of cyclists on the roads, running various local and national initiatives to bring across the message that CYCLISTS STAY ALIVE AT 1.5m. The Association is now looking for a highly organised go-getter to co-ordinate the campaign and take it to the next level.

Entries for the 13th annual Cape Argus Pick n Pay MTB Challenge opened on Monday, 20 January.  2014 marks an exciting change in format with the event moving to Le Bonheur Wine Estate in The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy in Stellenbosch.  The move offers mountain biking enthusiasts entirely new, never-ridden-before routes develped by well-known MTB trail enthusiast Meurant Botha.
