07 Jul PPA assists grassroots cycling development in the Western Cape

In the next 10 months, the Pedal Power Association will invest almost a half a million rand in developing cycle initiatives that will specifically benefit over 550 PPA members from previously disadvantaged communities throughout the Western Cape. In 2014-2015, the PPA will assist twelve clubs with projects that will be run by the clubs in their various communities. These include some 80 bicycles and helmets which will be given to excited newcomers to the sport; while over R130 000 will be granted towards assisting clubs to keep their bicycles on the road.

For the past three years, the Pedal Power Association, a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 18/11/13/2410), has been actively campaigning to improve the conditions of cyclists on the roads, running various local and national initiatives to bring across the message that CYCLISTS STAY ALIVE AT 1.5m.  The Association is now looking for a highly organised ‘go-getter' and avid cyclist who is passionate about the safety of cyclists, to take the campaign to the next level, based on international best practises around safe cycling.

02 May Hurry: Entries for PPA’s all-female MTB funride are closing soon!

The focus will be all on the fairer sex on Saturday 17 May when the PPA Tread Lightly Women’s MTB takes place at the Backsberg Estate near Paarl. On this day the ladies will take to the trails, while the men look after the kids and provide support at the venue.

10 Mar Nolan, Cherise fastest in 2014

Nolan Hoffman from Team Abantu clinched the coveted first place in the 37^th Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour on 9 March 2014, clocking an impressive time of 02:39:01 despite wind speeds of up to 83km/h recorded at the start.  Merone Hagos, an Eritrean rider from Team MTN Qhubeka Feeder followed in second place, with HB Kruger from Team Bonitas taking third place in a hard-fought battle for podium spots.

The Pedal Power Association has extended a helping hand to Western Cape Cycling by coming onboard as sponsor for the WP Track Championships taking place at the Bellville Velodrome on 15-16 March 2014.

05 Mar PPA suspends cyclists, withdraw Cycle Tour entries

The Pedal Power Association has withdrawn the 2014 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour entries of two of the riders who were involved in the incident during which a motorist was assaulted a few days ago in Sea Point.
