Greeff narrowly wins Mangaung Cycle Tour

Jacques Greeff (Token Cycling) narrowly out-sprinted teammate Egan Campbell (Token Cycling) to win the 2017 Mangaung Cycle Tour over 102 km in 2:34, averaging 39.66 km/h on the fairly flat course.

The front bunch of some 130 riders was off to a fast start for the first 30 km through town.  The wind made it difficult to break away, but in the end the two riders from Token Cycling took the lead to finish some 2 minutes up on the third rider.

Both Jacques and Egan used this event to prepare for the upcoming Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge.  “It was a flat and fast race, Egan and I managed to break away from the lead bunch in town and we are happy with the win,” said Jacques Greeff from Token Cycling.

In all, some 855 riders had entered the event, with many of them using this as an opportunity to obtain a seeding for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Junior Smith and Yvette Gerber Pretorius were the first two riders across the finish line in the 32 km event.
