
Winelands Cycle Race: Third Party Event
Please note this event is not organised by the Pedal Power Association. The Winelands Cycle Race event is a Third Party Event supported by the PPA.
The Winelands Cycle Race, a seeding race for the 2025 Cape Town Cycle Tour, takes place on Sunday, 26 January 2025, starting and finishing at Huguenote Primary in Wellington. The race will take place on a route along the Berg River from Wellington via Hermon and Riebeek West and back to Wellington. It will be an excellent race to help you gear up and improve your seeding for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2025. Proceeds of the race go to Paarl Rotary projects focusing on early childhood and youth development. Refreshments and a bike park will be available at the finish

DISTANCE, START TIMES & ENTRY FEE:
Short Race: 52 km – 07h30 – R320
Long Race: 102 km – 06h00 – R430
CUT OFF AT FINISH: 12h30
ENTRIES CLOSE: Monday, 20 January 2025.
LATE ENTRIES: Late entries (at relevant entry fee) will be allowed online and at all of the collection points provided the limit of 2,500 riders has not been reached. Late entry fee R500 (long race & excluding chip) and R400 (Short Race & excluding chip).
RACE NUMBER COLLECTION:
Friday, 24 January 2025: 14:00 to 17:00 at Bicycle Garage, Frater Square, 40 Main Street, Paarl.
Saturday, 25 January 2025: 09:00 to 11:30 at Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust Office, 65 Avenue de Mist, Rondebosch.
Saturday, 25 January 2025: 13:00 to 16:00 at Chris Willemse. Cycles, Willowbridge, Durbanville.
Sunday, 26 January 2025: From 05h00 at the venue.
THE ROUTE:
52 km Short Race
The Short route will follow the long route to the R44, where it splits and turns left at the Old Leather Factory, crossing over the Wellington Main road traffic lights and turns right at second set of traffic lights onto the Lady Loch road. After crossing the Lady Loch Bridge riders turn right towards the R45. At the R45, a right turn will take riders out towards Malmesbury. The short route will meet and merge with the long route at Slent(Voorpaardeberg) road where they will turn left, thereafter following the same route as the 102km route via Vryguns and Windmeul and back to Wellington, finishing in Piet Retief. A neutral zone takes the riders back to the start area at the Primary School where Coke, medals and refreshments are available.

102 km Long Race
Starting at the Huguenot Primary school, riders will be taken through Wellington and onto the Old Herman Road where they will turn right onto the R44 at the Old leather factory towards Hermon. After turning off the R44 onto the R46 the route will pass Hermon and Riebeeck Kasteel to climb over Bothmanskloof Pass followed by a long downhill to meet the R45 where they will turn left towards Paarl. The route turns right onto Slent(Voorpaardeberg) road to meet Vryguns where it turns left towards Windmeul on the R44. A left turn onto the R44 takes riders back to Wellington, passing through the new traffic lights at the R44 / R45 interchange. After crossing the Berg river riders will continue on Champagne Street to the Cemetery before turning left onto Piet Retief, where they will after 600m cross the finish line in Piet Retief. A neutral zone takes the riders back to the start area at the Primary School where Coke, medals and refreshments are available.
