14 Aug 2012 Enter now for the PPA 2012 Spring league!
We are pleased to announce that entries for the 2012 PPA Spring League, presented in conjunction with the Western Province Cycling Association, are now open. This year’s Spring league promises to be competitive, exhilarating and action-packed with three road funrides, two circuit races and one tough hill climb making up the league.
The running of the league will this season again be administered by the PPA, which assists us to keep costs as low as possible without compromising on the general league format. The points system used at the past Summer league remains, as does the team competition. In addition, the SWIFTS (Sporty Women in Full Training) league returns to give both our racing women as well as female cyclists who want to get into racing, a chance to compete.
Entries to the league will only be taken online – unfortunately no EFT’s or manual entries. League entries close on Thursday 30 August, with registration and collection of league packs taking place the following week from Tuesday 4 to Thursday 6 September at the PPA Office.
If you missed the 30 August registration deadline, you will again be able to enter the league between Monday 10 September and Wednesday 12 September; league registration entries closing the Wednesday before the next league event. No league entries will be taken on the day of the event, or at an event.
A race pack with league information and rules will be provided to each league rider.
Entry fees
Your registration and entry into the 2012 Spring league will automatically give you pre-paid entry into all six league events on the season’s calendar. So, having registered as a participant in the league, you will no longer need to stand in a queue to enter any of the six events. You simply need to sign on at the dedicated league gazebo, from where you will proceed directly to the start line. Please note: No refunds will be given should riders not turn up on the day for an event in the league series.
League seeding criteria
The 2012 Spring League is open to any cyclist who qualifies to enter in the following categories:
Elite & Junior Men
Male cyclists (born 1983 – 1993) and Junior Men (born 1994 – 1995) with a current PPA seeding of A-C. Gear restrictions are applicable to Junior Men. Junior Men can register for this group if they have a PPA seeding of A- E.
Sub-Veterans
Male cyclists with a PPA seeding of A-D (Born 1973 – 1982)
Veteran Men & Racing Women
Veterans: Male cyclists with a PPA seeding of A-E (Born 1963 – 1972)
Racing Women: Female cyclists with a PPA seeding of A-F (Born 1994 or earlier)
Masters & SWIFT Women
Masters Male cyclists with a PPA seeding of A-I (Born 1962 or earlier)
SWIFT (Sporty Women in Full Training): Female cyclists with a PPA seeding of G-J (Born 1994 or earlier)
Senior Scholars – U/16 Boys
Male cyclists born 1996 – 1997. No specific PPA seeding is required. Gear restrictions apply. No prize money will be paid out to this group and relevant CSA maximum racing distance will be applied .
Junior Scholars – U/14 & U/12 Boys and U/16 Girls
Male cyclists born 1998 – 1999 (U14) or 2000 -2001(U12), and female cyclists born 1996 – 1997. No specific PPA seeding is required. Gear Restrictions apply. No prize money will be paid out to this group due to CSA regulations, however recognition will be given to the top 3 riders on event day and for the series overall. Maximum racing distance will be applied as per CSA regulations.
