Entries are now open for the Cape Times Vigne-a-Vigne MTB (55km, 27km) and Trail Run, which take place on the last day of the 2011 Absa Cape Epic. Also don’t miss the prologue of this year’s event in Tokai on Sunday 27 March (note the Plantation will be closed to the public for cycling until 14h00).
The 2011 Absa Cape Epic
The Absa Cape Epic takes place from 27 March to 3 April 2011. The pre-event programme takes place on 26 March on registration day at the V & A Waterfront. Come and check out performances by MTB World Trials Champion, Kenny Belaey and World Record holder, Slackliner Lukas Irmler at the Amphitheatre.
The Prologue takes place on 27 March in the Tokai Plantation. The prologue will start at 07:00 – come and watch the pro-riders and amateurs race against the clock. If you can’t make it to the prologue, watch the action live on Supersport between 09:00 and 14:00.
Please note that all mountain bike trails in the Tokai Plantation will be closed to the public on Sunday 27 March until 14h00. Public parking for spectators is available inside the Tokai picnic site with direct access to Chrysalis academy – the start and finish venue of the prologue. Spectator points on route will be signposted from Chrysalis and are easily accessible on foot.
The Grand Finale of the 2011 Absa Cape Epic
The final stage of the Absa Cape Epic final finishes at Lourensford Wine Estate on 3 April. Come see the world’s best mountain bikers battle it out for top honours, while hundreds finishers are re-united with their loved ones, celebrating after 8 tough days in the saddle.
The Absa Cape Epic winners are expected to finish at 11:00. You are welcome to bring your friends and family along to welcome the riders home and to enjoy a day packed with adventure and entertainment, great food and wine in this superb setting. Entrance is free and visitors are advised to arrive early – parking will be available from 05:00.
The Cape Times Vigne-à-Vigne
Visitors have the opportunity to take part in their own one-day MTB or trail running races. The Cape Times Vigne-à-Vigne is an annual one-day mountain bike race that coincides with the final leg of this legendary stage race. The finish location at Lourensford boasts an ideal venue for mountain bikers of all levels to join into the excitement of the last day of the Absa Cape Epic.
The longer 55 km route is a very challenging course that’s bound to make you sweat buckets! This course takes riders right up and through the scenic vineyards of Lourensford Wine Estate. The shorter, approximately 27 km route is ideal for the upcoming mountain biker.
The two Cape Times Vigne à Vigne routes are separate from the Absa Cape Epic course and have been designed to allow approximately 60% of the field to finish before the winners of the Cape Epic are expected to arrive. After completing the Cape Times Vigne à Vigne routes, riders have the unique opportunity to join the carnival atmosphere of the Absa Cape Epic finish at Lourensford.

Entertainment on the day includes live performances by Zebra & Giraffe and Plush, as well as bike tricks by MTB World Trials Champion, Kenny Belaey and aerobatics displays. The Grand Finale also offers various children’s activities, including the Spur Children’s Fun Ride and the Spur Kids Play Zone.
