PPA members who want to explore new MTB trails over the festive season, can do so at a discounted day permit prices at the  Schapensberg trails near Somerset West, as well as the new trails at Thandi, Paul Cluver and Hermanus.

The Thandi and Paul Cluver MTB Trails will be open to the public from Thursday 22 Dec 2011 (08h00 – 17h00). The Trail starts and finishes at Thandi Farm stall (under new management) and consists of 4 routes:

1. Green – short and easy on Thandi (approx. 5km)
2. Blue – longer and easy single tracks on Thandi – the old Thandi single tracks (approx. 8km)
3. Red – longer and new technical single tracks – 1^st loop on Thandi & 2^nd loop on Paul Cluver (approx. 25km – excl. ‘Pofadder’ but incl. ‘Erdwurm’)
4. Black – same as Red Route, including the infamous & amazing POFADDER boardwalk

The routes are well marked, but maps and exact distances will only be available from next year. The Trail is part of the Cape Country Meander MTB Network.

Day Permit  – R20 PPA Members  (PPA Number required) and R40 Non PPA Members.
Annual Permit R150 PPA Members  (PPA Number required) and R300 Non PPA Members.

Marshals (local MTB’s) have been appointed to ensure compliance with Trail Rules (including Permits and Bike Boards).

The Trail has been funded by W2W and PPA and the official opening, in collaboration with PPA, will be next year.

The Hermanus Trail has also be opened (funded by W2W, PPA & Euodia Cycles) and the start and finish is at Euodia Cycles (at Wine Village at the Sandbaai-Hermanus intersection).
