22 Feb 2013 Cycling awareness ride: Enough is enough!
We yesterday received the tragic news that yet another cyclist was killed in Johannesburg after being hit by a car. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We need to get the message out there that CYCLISTS STAY ALIVE AT 1.5m. We therefore urge you to support the safety awareness ride on Saturday morning and to arrive en masse – bring your friends and family members, and let’s get the message out there that we will not stand for any more cyclists being hit by vehicles.

Very importantly, please WEAR YOUR SAFE CYCLING SHIRT so that passing motorists can get the picture – cycling clubs, please ask all your members to wear safe cycling shirts on this occasion instead of club jerseys.
Safe cycling jerseys are available from the PPA Office at 9 Hill Park Lane, Mowbray until 16h00 today, and will be available from the Mobile Office from 06h00 tomorrow. Shirts cost only R175 each, with PPA subsidising each shirt by R100.

CYCLISTS STAY ALIVE AT 1.5m
PARKING: Limited parking will be availableat Maiden’s Cove, with more parking at Clifton Fourth Beach, near Camps Bay High School and in the area, with many cyclists planning to cycle to the Awareness Ride. Please note that NO PARKING is allowed at the Glen Country Club.
ROUTE: The route is quite simple. We’ll line up on the Maiden’s Cove parking area- just look out for the PPA safe cycling feather flags.
From there, we’ll pedal out towards Hout Bay and back. You do not have to ride all the way to Hout Bay, though, and can turn around as and when you get tired. You may even feel like riding all the way to the top of Chappies, or turn around halfway to Hout Bay. There is no entry fee, timing, marshals or medals for this event.
Back at the venue, there will be a free Coke for everyone wearing a safe cycling shirt, as well as coffee and light refreshments (pancakes and rolls) for sale.Coffee will also be for sale from 06h00.
