Cycle Tour: Temporary road closures 10 and 11 March 2011

Cycle Tour: Temporary road closures 10 and 11 March 2011

The Cape Peninsula will welcome some 35,000 cyclists when the 35th Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour takes place this Sunday, 11 March. Participants and spectators are encouraged to use trains and other forms of public transport to get to the start area.

Renee Jordaan, Operations Director at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, organisers of the Cycle Tour, is encouraging participants and spectators to use trains and other forms of public transport to get to the start area. “Parking is even more limited than in previous years, but with the assistance of the City of Cape Town and Metrorail we have increased public transport services on the day to help cyclists and their bikes get to the starting line.”

Metrorail will be selling train tickets at the Cape Argus Lifecycle Expo at R40 each for cyclists who wish to use the train to commute to the start. The ticket allows cyclists to take their bikes on the train. The trains will operate according to the normal Sunday timetable, so riders are encouraged to visit the Metrorail website at www.metrorail.co.za

To further ensure that all cyclists and supporters can get to the start and finish lines quickly and efficiently, the City of Cape Town has increased MyCiTi bus services in and around the Cape Town area on Race Day, and residents and visitors are encouraged to make use of the extensive public transport services that will be operating on the day.
