Cycle Tour gets Momentum

Cycle Tour gets Momentum

The successful upward trajectory of the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour as one of the most enjoyed and anticipated events on the cycling calendar, looks set to continue with the announcement that integrated financial services company, Momentum, has come on board as a co-sponsor alongside long-time sponsors Cape Argus and Pick n Pay.

The announcement was made by David Bellairs, Sponsorship, Marketing and Media Director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT), organisers of the annual event. The Cycle Tour is recognised as the world’s largest timed cycling race and attracts some 35,000 cyclists to the streets of Cape Town on the second Sunday of March each year.

“We’re delighted to welcome Momentum to the fold and, effective immediately, the event will be known as the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour,” Bellairs said. “This exciting new development means that as organisers, CTCTT has the freedom to raise the bar even higher and steer this iconic and hugely popular annual event to be more than a national one – but rather a global one,” Bellairs added.

Danie van den Bergh, Head of Momentum Brand, commented: “We’re delighted to be putting our name to this much-loved sporting event. With our experience as sponsor of One Day cricket in South Africa and other mass participation cycling events, we are confident that we can contribute our passion and a renewed energy to what is already a spectacular event.  Along with our new partners, Momentum is committed to supporting cycling in South Africa.  For us, the quality of time spent with family and friends or in pursuit of a healthy and rewarding lifestyle is important – and the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour is an excellent example of these values.”

Jermaine Craig, editor of the Cape Argus, said: ”The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour is an event now firmly established as one of the most iconic events on the global sporting calendar and we are proud of our long association with the event. We welcome Momentum on board as co-sponsor and look forward to the tour growing from strength to strength and reaching even greater heights in future.”

Malcolm Mycroft, General Manager of Marketing at Pick n Pay, said that the retailer was excited about the partnership going forward: “As one of the founding sponsors of the Cycle Tour, we have always been exceptionally proud to be part of this incredible event; and now we are thrilled to be able to welcome another truly great South African brand – with whom we share the same values of family and healthy living –to be part of what has become one of the greatest days in our calendar.”
