24 Oct PPA calls for increased safety on our roads

The Pedal Power Association is extremely saddened that a cyclist was killed this morning on our local roads. The Cycle Tour was started 35 years ago as a protest ride to bring to the attention that very little was being done by the authorities for cyclists and in particular, their safety. So many years later and we are gradually seeing the number of incidents involving cyclists increasing, instead of decreasing due to drivers who still do not give cyclists the respect they deserve.

16 Oct Cycle to Work Day – Thursday 18 October

The Outriders Cycle Club of Table View and the Pedal Power Association are promoting a “cycle to work day” on Thursday 18 October, in support of National Transport month. On this day, cyclists who pedal to work along the West Coast cycle path are in for a surprise: We’ll have our gazebos up between 06h30 and 08h00 at the Woodbridge Island traffic light and will offer a FREE cup of coffee to commuters, walkers and roller bladers. What do you need to cycle to work? Firstly, you need to find a safe route: Check if there are any bicycle paths in your area, and use them where possible. You don’t have to duck the cars, and you can move swiftly ahead.

12 Oct PPA gives back with reduced price for Safe Cycling jerseys

In the interests of safe cycling, the next 100 safe cycling jerseys will be sold at the subsidised cost of R175 per jersey. The PPA committee has decided to absorb a larger portion of the cost of the jersey, in order to assist cyclists to 'get the message out there'.

Late entries for the 2012 PPA One Tonner have closed. No entries will be taken after 8 October, or at the event. Substitutions have also closed.

01 Oct City opens Sea Point promenade to cyclists

October is Transport Month. As a trial, the prohibition on the use of bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades  on the Sea Point promenade was lifted today, for the duration of the month. If all goes well, the prohibition will remain lifted on a month-to-month basis.

27 Sep PPA looks after commuters’ safety in Retreat

In preparation for October’s “Transport Month”, the Pedal Power Association ‘gave back’ to the community  when staff members of the Association, together with local Traffic Officers and friends of the PPA, spent a few hours on Wednesday 26 September to hand bicycle helmets and reflective  bicycle strips to commuters from the Retreat, Grassy Park and Lavender Hill areas.

25 Sep PPA One Tonner entries are closing soon

Entries for the One Tonner over 153 km close at the end of this month (30 September), after which late entry fees apply. Late entries will be taken until 12h00 on Monday 8 October or when 1500 entries have been reached, whichever comes first. No entries can unfortunately be taken after 8 October.
