13 Nov 2013 2014 Grape Escape 3-day MTB cancelled
The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust has announced the cancellation of the 2014 edition of the Grape Escape 3-day mountain bike event.
Explaining the difficult decision, David Bellairs, a Director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT), organisers of the event said, “Being a 3-day event, the Grape Escape is an expensive undertaking to host and requires the cash resource of a committed title sponsor. With Nashua having opted not to renew its sponsorship for 2014, and despite our best efforts, the Trust has been unable to secure the necessary financial support for next year’s race and the decision was made to cancel the event.
“The focus of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust is primarily aimed at raising money for charity and to promote cycling development. With this in mind, we need to remain cognisant of what burden we place on the financial resources of the Trust. It is with deep regret that we are cancelling the event for next year and we will review the situation for 2015, should a suitable sponsor be found,” he added.
