Non-Motorised Transport is now Active Mobility – same sustainable goals, now with a fresh new name. What is Active Mobility? It’s about creating safer, greener walking and cycling spaces for everyone.
Get ready to share your thoughts and contribute towards changing the Active Mobility landscape. The draft Walking and Cycling Strategy is open for comments on the Have Your Say page.
Background:
The City of Cape Town has made significant strides in enhancing accessibility in the transport system, as well as walking and cycling infrastructure. However, more is required to meet the growing demand.
The City is committed to keeping Cape Town moving and improving accessibility in the transport system by adopting a bold shift towards active mobility, especially walking and cycling. Walking and cycling not only reduce congestion and environmental impact but also play a critical role in supporting public transport systems. Given the importance of public transport in connecting people to social and economic opportunities, it is essential to address accessibility challenges faced by minors, the elderly, pregnant women, people living with disabilities, and passengers with bags or luggage. Additionally, we aim to improve security for all users.
This is exactly what the draft Walking and Cycling Strategy and the draft Universal Access (UA) Policy for an Accessible Transport System seek to address.
