The Pedal Power Association (PPA) proudly launched its ‘Safe Cycling’ campaign on Wednesday 15 February 2012. The campaign focuses on a safe passing distance of 1.5m between vehicles and cyclists and ties in with new legislation expected to be passed later this year.

Cape Town, February 2012: Cycling SA has proposed a new constitution which will bring them in line with SASCOC ideals. This proposed new constitution will be discussed at a meeting with SASCOC later this month.

Do you need funds for a worthwhile cycling project? The Pedal Power Association (PPA) is putting money back into cycling, making profits obtained via the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour available for the funding of cycling projects for 2012.

PPA is about to launch a major SAFE CYCLING campaign, focusing the attention on safe passing distance. We believe vehicles should pass cyclists with at least a 1.5m berth, and you can help us to spread the word.

Cyclists who missed the entry cut-off for the 2012 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour have one last chance to secure an entry with substitution entries which opened on Wednesday 1 February 2012.

Join PPA on Tuesdays for cycling training sessions on the Killarney Motor Racing track (18h00-19h00).  Registration from 17h30 in the pits area. Depending on the number of cyclists on the day, there will be two to three start groups, with an experienced cyclist leading the training session. In general the sessions start off slowly, with the speed and/or intervals increasing towards the end.

Entries are open for the 2012 Aca Joe summer Pro Classic (league) series. Cyclists who qualify with regards to age and seeding, can enter one of eight racing groups. Summer events with Pro Classic (league) status in 2012 are: Tour de PPA (15 Jan), Cyclelab Cape Cobra (22 Jan), Bouckaert-Soenen (29 Jan), Rollercoaster (5 Feb), Medallion Tour de Stellenbosch (19 Feb); Wellington Lions Cycle Day (25 Feb) and Bay City Cycle Tour (26 Jan).

All the best for 2012: May it be a great year, and may your cycling wishes come true! Discounted 'early bird' entries for the Tour de PPA on 15 January close on Monday 9 January - be sure to get your entry in soonest, although you will still be able to enter after the 9th, as well as on the day of the funride.
