ENTRIES STILL STREAMING IN FOR NEW WOMEN’S FUNRIDE
Entries are streaming in for the new “PPA Heels on Wheels, presented by Shape“, with more than 300 women having already entered. This new, fun event on 11 December is specially designed to cater for newcomers, and female cyclists who perhaps don’t participate in funrides as often as they’d like, with fairly flat, doable routes over 47 km and 13 km.
Goody bags only to the first 350 entrants include vouchers for pedicures and facials, retail store discounts and more. Great lucky draw prizes on the day include a bicycle, an accommodation voucher, cycling kit, shopping vouchers, product hampers and more! ROUTE DESCRIPTION
From the venue, there is an 800m “neutral zone” until cyclists turn right onto the West Coast Road. All three routes then head out in a northerly direction towards Melkbos, Atlantis, and Mamre. This is primarily a flat ride. The 65 km route follows the West Coast Road until the Melkbos traffic light, where a right turn takes cyclists along Melkbosstrand Road in the direction of the N7. Cyclists then turn left onto the R304 and pedal to Atlantis.
The 85 km route follows the West Coast Road past Atlantis and turn right to Mamre (up the only hill on the course). Pedal through the outskirts of Mamre towards Atlantis to meet up with the 65 km route. Both the 85 km and 65 km routes cycle through the Atlantis business district. The route then takes the West Coast Road back through Melkbos along the beach front to Big Bay. The finish is in Cormorant Avenue.
The 19 km route turns left off the West Coast road at the Melkbos Traffic light where it joins up with the other two routes. THE 19 KM ROUTE WILL NOT BE TIMED
DIRECTIONS TO THE VENUE
From the N1, take the Milnerton off-ramp onto Koeberg Road. Continue past Ysterplaat, through Milnerton, left into Racecourse Road past Milnerton Medi Clinic, and right at the traffic light (at Paddocks) onto the West Coast Road. Pass Dolphin Beach, Table View and the Bay Side Centre until Sandown Road. Turn right into Sandown Road and follow the marshals to one of the designated parking areas. Venue GPS Coordinates: S: 33°48.11; E 18°29.09.
PREDICTED WEATHER
Sunday’s weather is predicted to be mostly cloudy and cool with a Westerly wind of 15 knots, 83% humidity and 21% probability of rain at this stage.
NOTES
Please note starting order, with the short route starting ahead of the long and then the medium routes so as to cause the least congestion possible in the last few km before the finish. Due to several new developments (cycle lanes, bus lanes, commercial buildings) in the vicinity of the club, parking is limited. The organisers have requested that, where possible, you cycle to the start. If you are coming from far, then add an extra 15 minutes travel time.
All children u/10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Easy Entry Tickets that are still valid, will be accepted. Remember to bring and wear your blue PPA road funride number. If you have not received a road funride number and intend participating in this event, please contact the PPA Office on (021) 689-8420 no later than Thursday. Please note PPA members start ahead of non-members, and only paid-up PPA members receive results, provided a transponder is worn. Visiting and up-country riders are invited to contact the PPA Office no later than lunchtime on Friday for more information.
